New Class: Yoga Foundations Mondays and Saturdays

The Art of Yoga at the Franklinton Playhouse sees the importance of establishing a strong foundation for your practice so that you can move safely, effectively, and with confidence every time you step on the mat, no matter what class.  We understand getting started can be a difficult process and walking into a classroom with a bunch of people who are way more “advanced” can be intimidating.  We provide an open and welcoming environment, free of judgment or expectation, so that you can step onto your mat, and step into yourself.  The practice of yoga is about far more than the poses (asanas) and we would love to be the studio to welcome you to this age-old tradition and its benefits for your body, your mind, and your...

Interview with Laura Lampe!

Back at it again, yogis! This week we just couldn’t stay away from the studio because Laura Lampe was teaching her Tuesday night class. Laura has been practicing yoga for four years and has been teaching at AOY since October! Her favorite pose is Balancing Half-Moon because though it seems like a daunting, difficult stance, once she finds her balance she feels graceful!   What made you start yoga? It all began with curiosity. I was unfit from raising three children and started going to the gym to try and lose weight. All the exercise and sweat made me feel so good I wanted to expand into something else, which turned out to be yoga. It immediately knocked me on my butt- and I loved it. Why did you choose to work at AOY? I love urban spaces and because of the Art Of Yoga’s unique environment and setting in the city it stands out. What makes AOY different? There’s no pressure here with such a supportive community. In an environment as awesome as downtown Columbus, it’s difficult to find a good yoga studio. So when Ryan opened this studio up it gave everyone an inexpensive and accessible opportunity to do something they love. Young professionals sometimes move down here and they are thrilled when they find AOY. What do you teach in yoga? I stress as much as possible that breath is so important. Stay with your breath and it helps you approach a pose without being afraid of running away from it. People don’t often associate the two, but breathing and movement are so vital for yoga. People think...

The Art of Yoga Launches Get and Give Campaign to Drive the Spirit of Giving.

We are excited to announce our new campaign to drive the spirit of giving! With the Get and Give Campaign, yoga students purchase a 20 class pass and in turn receive a 5 class pass to give to a friend! The Get and Give campaign is driven from the studio’s mission: “The Art of Yoga offers the highest quality yoga instruction, with a low financial cost of entry, in a welcoming studio that showcases art from local artists. Our environmental and societal impact are among our highest concerns; therefore we are dedicated to adapting our mission, our values, and our commitments to pursue the greatest impact on the Central Ohio community.” The Art of Yoga’s Owner, Ryan Bauer, explains the thought process behind the campaign, “During the holiday season, we were able to reach out to community partners in under served communities and offer them a set of complimentary classes. Our efforts were so well received that we made giving back a larger focus in our social entrepreneurship model of how the studio is structured. After the holidays we offered several complimentary services to our students, but felt the need to get the students more involved, hence our Get and Give campaign! Now students receive a complimentary certificate for 5 classes when they purchase a 20 class pass. The 20 class pass normally retails for $200, but we’re offering the pass for $100 to really drive the spirit of giving.” One additional surprise to members of the studio, those students enrolled in the monthly subscription of classes, is that they receive the complimentary 5 class pass automatically. Mr. Bauer stated, “We...
